Learn all about the Illinois Executive Mansion, home to Illinois governors and their families since 1855, during a presentation by Justin Blandford, the superintendent of the state-owned historic sites in Illinois’s capital city. The mansion is scheduled to re-open in July 2018, following a meticulous, privately-funded restoration led by First Lady Diana Rauner, who, in 2015, described the decrepit and crumbling building as a metaphor for the state of Illinois. Blandford’s presentation will highlight future plans for the mansion and remind the audience of the history and significance behind the historic home. This event is free to the public, and is sponsored in part by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholar Speakers Bureau.
