This Sunday, join the Academy of Lifelong Learning at Lincoln Land Community College and the Illinois State Museum for the first of nine Bicentennial Speaker Series programs in honor of the Illinois Bicentennial. The series kicks off with a presentation by Illinois State Historian Dr. Samuel Wheeler titled “Two Centuries to Celebrate: Illinois at the Bicentennial.” During his presentation, Wheeler will discuss some of the ways in which the state of Illinois has celebrated milestone anniversaries, such as statehood in 1818, the centennial in 1918 and the 1968 sesquicentennial. Additionally, Wheeler will preview a handful of the ongoing bicentennial plans, as well as what helps make our state unique and how to best celebrate the 200 th birthday of Illinois. The complimentary Bicentennial Speaker Series will host a speaker on the third Sunday of every month, from February to October, and will feature several Road Scholar Speakers offered by Illinois Humanities.
