On Thursday, Feb. 1, from 7-9 p.m., hear former white supremacist Joseph Pearce chronicle his life from racist revolutionary to his rejection of that ideology. Pearce, a former leader of the National Front, a British-nationalist, white supremacist group, is now a wellknown college literature professor, currently serving as the Tolkien and Lewis chair in literary studies at Holy Apostles College in Cromwell, Connecticut. Pearce will outline his progression into and out of the racist revolutionary ideology, from dispensing literature extolling the virtues of the white race, to street fighting and organizing pro-fascist concerts, to his eventual imprisonment for racial hatred, and the role that literary figures played in his conversation from radical revolutionary to Catholic author. “Confessions of a Former White Supremacist” is an ECCE Speaker Series presentation, co-sponsored by the Catholic Student Organization and UIS Diversity Center.
