This Saturday, ZXO comes strolling over from Champaign to the lower level Radon Lounge (contact info at [email protected]) with several other fine music acts from around the area. Bandmates Ryan Brewer, Garrick Nelson, Gabe Gerhardt and Teddy Lerch in ZXO call their music a “psychedelic slow jam,” placing it in the genre of “cosmic molasses,” a place of improvisational music that starts slow and builds to a crescendo of mighty proportions, using rock instruments and crafty songwriting to make marvelous music, no matter what the speed of the material. They’ve been busy recording and releasing music during the last few years, and in October of 2017, ZXO put out an eight-song record called LP1, available on the group’s Bandcamp site. Smile Politely, a C-U online magazine, listed LP1 in its top-10 albums of 2017, calling ZXO “perhaps the best band performing music in C-U at this point in time,” and now you can find out for yourselves.
