On Monday, Jan. 1, join the Sangamon Valley Group Sierra Club for a Stone Soup Hike. During this annual event, attendees are invited to enjoy vegetarian or meat-eater soups and a guided hike through Carpenter Park, a 434-acre wooded park and nature preserve nestled along the north bank of the Sangamon River. All attendees are asked to dress for the weather and bring a food item to contribute to a vegetarian or meat-friendly soup pot, along with their own drink (a hot beverage is recommended) and table service. Meat and other food items that require an extended cooking time must be precooked before the group gathers at the park’s stone shelter at 10 a.m. For more information about the Stone Soup Hike and the Sangamon Valley Group Sierra Club, call 899- 9996 or visit http://svgsierraclub.org.
