Don’t miss War Games, a one-day event organized by Lizzie Roehrs, a junior communication major at the University of Illinois at Springfield and current intern at the Illinois State Military Museum. War Games is an interactive event where attendees can talk with reenactors and historians, examine historical equipment popularized in video games such as “Call of Duty: World at War,” try on WWII uniforms, take in reenactments and weapons displays, view artifacts not normally on display to the public and explore a re-created trench. Says Roehrs: “I wanted to find a connection between entertainment and history that would appeal to people who aren’t usually museum-goers. I also wanted to show people who play these games that there is more to the history than what they see in a video game.” For more information about War Games, email Roehrs at [email protected] or contact the Illinois State Military Museum at 761-3910.
