During Statewide Healthcare Day of Action April 18, a coalition of Affordable Care Act advocates organized outside U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood’s Springfi eld offi ce to ask for support of a pledge to protect health care insurance coverage and prevent the removal of ACA benefi ts.

Organizing for Action, the Illinois Alliance of Retired Americans and SEIU Healthcare Illinois were among local advocates.

The pledge includes a top 10 list of what Illinois congressional delegates and Gov. Rauner should oppose in a health care plan, including tax cuts through the ACA for wealthy individuals, increasing premiums and deductibles, Medicaid cuts, privatizing Medicare, and any plan that discriminates against people with pre-existing conditions.

Trina Diedrich, a constituent of LaHood’s 18th congressional district, presented the pledge to Springfi eld director Hal Smith. Smith did not comment on the likelihood of LaHood signing the pledge.
