HELEN L. TUTTLE
Aug. 22, 1944 – Feb. 4, 2016
Helen Tuttle lived the American dream. More than 50 years ago she, along with her husband, started a business from nothing in Greenview that is still thriving. She was an important member of her church and community, always taking time to pray and check up on her friends and family when they were sick, hospitalized or just needed someone to talk to. She was also not afraid or shy about speaking her mind.
Helen gave those around her so much (including many incredible meals during the holidays), but her greatest gift was the love she had for her family. The last few years of her life she was on dialysis and often ill, yet her focus always remained on her family.
When I went to college last year, she wrote me a letter at least once a week. She ended her letters saying how much she loved me and made sure I knew she was there for me. I still have every letter she sent me.
Helen Tuttle showed me and those that knew her that the American dream is possible, but more importantly, she showed me how a few acts of compassion, like sending a letter to someone away from home for the first time, can make a huge difference in someone’s life. She lives on through the acts of kindness that she inspired.
