Don’t miss the inaugural Lincoln Film Festival, the brainchild of co-founders Brenda Chapman, Oscarwinning director of Disney’s Brave, and David Lanternman, owner of the Lincoln Grand 8 Theatre. The fun kicks off Friday evening with a Grand Opening Gala. The gala features spirits and hors d’oeuvres along with a screening of Steven King’s Lincoln followed by a brief seminar on the iconography of Abraham Lincoln in the modern world, presented by Illinois State Historian Dr. Samuel Wheeler. Admission to the Gala is $20. Saturday’s events begin at 9:30 a.m., with a free animation program for ages 7-92 that shows highlights from past Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival films. At 10 a.m., join Brenda Chapman and Kevin Lima (director of Disney’s Enchanted) for a film industry seminar entitled “Pursuing and attaining your dreams.” The festival’s main attraction, film showings throughout Saturday and Sunday, include independent, live-action and animated short films, features and documentaries. There will also be special showings of Brave and The Lion King which include a personal introduction by and Q&A session and signings with director Brenda Chapman following both films, as well as a special presentation of Enchanted with director Kevin Lima. A single-day film pass can be purchased for $15 and a two-day pass for $25.
