A program produced in Springfi eld recently won a regional Emmy award.

Mark McDonald produces Cardia, which explores issues of heart health facing both patients and doctors. The program on WSEC/ PBS Springfi eld and Jacksonville has run for 15 years. At the NATAS Mid-America Emmy Awards in Branson, Missouri, on Sept. 30, McDonald and Dr. Gregory Mishkel accepted the regional Emmy in the Interview/Discussion category for the episode “Hearts and Sciences.” The episode includes Dr. Jeff Christy performing heart surgery, with McDonald and Mishkel discussing the procedure and addressing questions from viewers. It was a group effort, including directors Meredith Dumyahn and Keith Lawson, along with Prairie Heart Institute in Springfi eld providing resources like medical expertise, doctors and patients. The Mid-America Emmy region covers part of Illinois, all of Missouri, Arkansas and Iowa, and part of Louisiana.
