SPORTS | Play rugby this fall
The Springfield Celts Rugby Football Clubs are gearing up for their fall seasons, and you could be part of the action. The Springfield Celts Rugby Football Club was initially established as a men’s team in 1975. The organization expanded to include a high school boys’ rugby team in 2010 and a women’s team in 2015. Today, the Springfield Celts Rugby Football Clubs are open to men and women of all experience and skill levels, from beginners to experts. The teams play both Rugby Sevens (seven players playing 7-minute halves) and Union 15’s (15 players playing 40-minute halves). Both the men’s and women’s rugby teams practice twice weekly at Kennedy Park, located across the street from Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. Men’s practices run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 27, while women’s practices run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday through Oct. 26.
