BAND SPOTLIGHT | Reed Turchi & The Caterwauls

Native of the Asheville, North Carolina, Swannanoa Valley area, Reed Turchi grew up playing boogie-woogie blues piano, became infatuated with the slide guitar sounds of Northern Mississippi and just kept going into blues, rock and soul. From 2012 until 2014, his group Turchi rocked the blues world with solid releases plus hard touring in the U.S. and Europe. A 2015 move to Memphis brought a new feel and sound to his blues connection through an introduction to Tuareg music while soaking up vibes in the historic music city. Speaking in Shadows, his March 2016 release on Devil Down Records, was recorded at famed Ardent Studios and reflects this self-described “intersection of Desert Blues and Southern Soul, with tastes of funk, indie-rock and gospel all blended in.” Reed spends his time on the road making music with The Caterwauls including Memphis drummer Andrew McNeill, slide guitarist Joey Fletcher based out of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Woodsbury, Tenn.-based singer and piano player Heather Moulder.
