Join the Springfield Art Association for the annual block party that encourages community members to literally paint the streets of downtown Springfield. For $30 per square, individuals and groups of up to six people will be able to paint a 6-foot-by-6-foot square of road on Washington Street between Fourth and Seventh streets. You bring a healthy dose of creativity and the Springfield Art Association will provide water-soluble paints and painting supplies. New this year is a Professional Artists category complete with a $600 cash prize, compliments of Green Family Stores. Other attractions include live music throughout the day, food stands, a children’s tent featuring age-appropriate arts and crafts and more. Painting will be permitted from 12-7 p.m. From 7-10 p.m., the street will turn into a gallery under the stars; the perfect backdrop for a mid-summers eve of drinking, dancing and perusing the outdoor gallery.
