Springfi eld police handled a bizarre standoff earlier this month when a man wielding a baseball bat allegedly began attacking his neighbors. Gregory Bosie of Springfi eld was arrested on June 15, following an hours-long standoff with police at his apartment on North Fifth Street. According to a police report about the incident, Bosie put several of his girlfriend’s belongings on the curb on June 15 but got angry when neighbors began to rummage through the pile. Danny Dapron, Bosie’s downstairs neighbor, says he saw Bosie swinging a wooden baseball bat at another neighbor who was looking through the curbed items in the mid-afternoon. Dapron confronted Bosie, who allegedly hit Dapron on the upper arm with the bat, causing bruising from the shoulder to the elbow. “He was going for a home run,” Dapron said. Dapron ran to his apartment, and Bosie allegedly threatened to destroy a nearby vehicle with the bat. Dapron went outside again, and Bosie allegedly hit him on the other arm, this time drawing blood. Bosie also allegedly threw a piece of wood at Dapron’s daughter, Melissa Caillier, allegedly hitting her in the shoulder and the head. Caillier had two black eyes and a bruised shoulder after the incident. When the police arrived around 3:40 p.m., Bosie locked himself in his upstairs apartment and refused to come out. The police eventually left, and Dapron says Bosie came back outside and began hitting Dapron’s door. The police returned with an arrest warrant, and Bosie allegedly barricaded himself in his apartment so the offi cers couldn’t get in even with the landlord’s master key. Eventually, the landlord talked Bosie into surrendering, according to the police report. Bosie now faces one count of battery and two counts of aggravated battery. Dapron and Caillier weren’t seriously injured, and they now have an order of protection against Bosie. Dapron says he’s thankful for the Springfi eld police handling the incident. “They did such a great job,” he said.
