  FAIRS AND FESTIVALS | Free family fun close to home The annual street party and carnival known as Assumption Fest will take place June 23-25. Admission and parking are free all three days. The festival begins Thursday on the main stage with an opening ceremony followed by the Little Miss Assumption, Junior Miss Assumption and Miss Assumption pageants, then a pet show at 8 p.m. Friday’s fun includes the kickoff of the ongoing First Annual Smokin’ Hot BBQ contest; other highlights are the Macon Speedway show car display, the Wild Exotic Pet Show from 6-9 p.m., and live music by Glory Days Tribute Band on the main stage from 7-9 p.m., and Feudin Hillbilly’s in the beer tent from 9 p.m. through 12:30 a.m. On Saturday the annual parade begins at 11 a.m., featuring the cruise-in for the Acres and Asphalt car show, located adjacent to the BBQ competition. The festival features plenty of children’s activities as well, including a kids’ area located on Second Street, showcasing Mad Scientist demonstrations including slime making and periscope making, a kids’ tractor pull, games and more. Close out the night with live music by the Allan Craig Band on the main stage and X-Krush in the beer tents.
