CHILDREN’S CORNER | Unplug and play outside

School is almost out for summer! Celebrate by unplugging your electronic devices and playing outside with the Springfield Park District, genHkids, Springfield YMCA and Hy-Vee. While the day’s activities are primarily geared towards elementary and middle-school age children, they are fun and appropriate for all ages. Featured games include traditional playground sports such as tug-o-war, hopscotch and foursquare. Kids can also try their hand at an obstacle course, gardening in a community garden, pickleball, soccer, a javelin toss, disc golf, basketball, yoga, other fitness activities and more. Children are encouraged to bring their bikes for a free bike inspection and to participate in the Springfield Bicycle Club’s bicycle rodeo. Parents will enjoy meeting neighborhood police officers and learning tips for reducing their carbon footprint by curbing your car, courtesy of SMTD.
