THEATER | The Lincoln nuptials

This weekend, see an original play based on the wedding of Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln. On Nov. 7, 1842, Springfield’s elite gathered at the home of Ninian and Elizabeth Edwards to witness Elizabeth’s younger sister, Mary, give her hand in marriage to a young lawyer by the name of Abraham Lincoln. During the play, each guest at the wedding will give their own personal analysis of the relationship between Mary and Lincoln. After the play, Jane Hartman will perform a wedding march on the same instrument that was played at the Lincolns’ wedding. A panel discussion featuring writer and director Rose Harmon plus Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Lincoln curator James Cornelius and others will follow the show, as well as a wine and cake reception.
