Hosted by the Springfield Heritage Sites Coalition, the fifth annual “An Historic Christmas” event highlights six of Springfield’s most beloved historic sites. During the event, the sites open their doors for an afternoon of special tours, holiday cheer, activities, performances, crafts and more. Participating sites are the Lincoln Home, the Illinois Executive Mansion, the Elijah Iles House, the Vachel Lindsay Home, Edwards Place and the Old State Capitol. Create Victorian-era Christmas cards at the Lincoln Home, see performances by the Eddy Flute Choir and the Old State Capitol Chorale at the Illinois Executive Mansion, hear local poets share their favorite seasonal works during a special “Poets at the Parlor” event at the Vachel Lindsay Home, see a Civil War Santa Claus at Edwards Place, enjoy snacks, games and photos with Santa at the Old State Capitol, and much more. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Sites may be visited in any order. For more information about the event, contact the individual sites mentioned above.
