A CRAFTY SOLUTION What if the crafts and trades, with their training programs, teamed up with the Springfield Building and Zoning housing division and Administrative Court to bring houses out of code back to standard for those that can ill-afford the necessary repairs to keep a roof over their head? Of course, churches and other groups looking for projects could cut grass, paint and do other services to keep at-risk residents from being cited and/or fined, or worse. Just thinking. LEAVE WORKERS ALONE Governor Rauner says he wants to protect our workplace First Amendment rights with his anti-union agenda but this is America, and we have no constitutional rights in the workplace. Labor law gives us some protection but he wants to weaken that further.

Does the governor plan to extend Illinois constitutional protections to the workplace by executive order? If not, maybe he should just share his pasture pies with his wealthy peers and leave us working folks alone. Bob Zoch Springfi eld

ROAD HAZARDS AHEAD There are at least two sunken water valve housings in Springfield streets that need to be adjusted because of the bumps and possible other problems.

The first is at the intersection of Jefferson and MacArthur, in the left through lane of northbound MacArthur. The pavement also appears to be undermined at this location.

The second one is at the intersection of Rutledge and Calhoun, where it affects both northbound Rutledge and eastbound Calhoun. The pavement may also have a void underneath at this location.

I know CWLP is short of funds, but these two road hazards need to be addressed. Tyre W. Rees Springfi eld
