BAND SPOTLIGHT | Maurice John Vaughn
Once again the Illinois Central Blues Club delivers, sponsoring a show by one of Chicagoland’s most respected and versatile blues artists. Maurice John Vaughn started out playing the saxophone to join a band in the 70s. Not long after that, he moved to guitar to keep the gigs coming and added singing to extend his act as a three-pronged performer. After playing a show and subsequent tour with Phil Guy, Buddy’s gigging brother, Vaughn found himself immersed in the top levels of the famed Chicago blues scene. In the mid-80s he wanted to record, but with no producer calling, Maurice made his own album, playing, producing and putting together all the parts. Through a turn of events Alligator Records distributed the album and Vaughn garnered praise throughout the blues world for his efforts, setting the standard for a lifetime in the blues. Since then Maurice has stayed active, producing, doing A&R work, performing, recording and being a staunch and vital member of the blues community.
