Abraham Lincoln is widely recognized as one of the best public speakers of all time. Through his speeches, Lincoln inspired citizens to vote him into the White House, abolish slavery, reject war and promote and perpetuate a government by and for the people. Undying Words: Lincoln 1858-1865, the newest exhibit at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, explores Lincoln’s changing viewpoints during this eight-year period by examining more than 120 documents and artifacts relating to several of his most powerful speeches. The main attractions include a handwritten copy of the Gettysburg Address, a signed copy of the Emancipation Proclamation and a signed copy of the 13 th Amendment. This exhibit is the result of a collaboration between the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and the Chicago History Museum and will be on display in Springfield through 2015.
