Kicking off a fast approaching fall festival season, the ever-popular Old Capitol Blues and BBQS has great blues music paired with a food favorite, barbecue. Put on each year by Downtown Springfield, Inc. the festival has another amazing lineup. Headliners this year are Victor Wainwright and The Wild Roots on Friday and The Lee Boys (pictured) and Sacred Steel on Saturday. Each show starts at 10 p.m. On Saturday starting at noon at the Illinois Central Blues Club Challenge, cheer on your favorite local blues act competing for a chance to go to the Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Also Saturday from 2-6 p.m., families can visit a free kids’ area with karaoke, puppet show, magic, juggling, face painting and more. Food and beverage tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at Fifth and Washington streets. Festival admission includes four food and beverage tickets. Children 12 and under are free.
