Springfield Park District officials have met with representatives of a private golf management firm. But it’s too soon to say that the district will put management of the district’s four courses into private hands. Derek Harms, park district executive director, said that representatives of Billy Casper Golf, a Virginiabased company that operates more than 140 courses in 28 states, recently contacted the district and asked for a meeting. It was, Harms says, an “informal” confab stemming from an unsolicited call. “They’ll probably provide us with different information on management styles,” Harms said. “I don’t think that the park district is actively looking at making any changes at this time.” The company’s website makes private management sound tempting for a park district that has been strapped for cash in recent years. “Providing results. Delivering results,” the company boasts. “If you’re an owner of a golf course, private club or resort, Billy Casper Golf will make you money.” Stay tuned.
