
MUISC | Shakespeare and percussion
Illinois Symphony Orchestra has a spectacular concert planned for Saturday, Feb. 22, at Sangamon Auditorium UIS that includes a special guest percussionist and a dramatic performance. ISO is joined by Illinois Shakespeare Festival players who will bring Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” to life. Multi-percussionist Joseph Gramley joins the concert playing different percussion instruments in Chen Yi’s “Percussion Concerto.” Gramley is also a member of Silk Road Ensemble, a group directed by Yo-Yo Ma. The evening opens with Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.” Tickets can be purchased at the door beginning at 6 p.m. Bunn is a sponsor of the concert while Jim and Debbie Ringer and Kathryn Ransom are sponsoring Gramley.
