Downtown Springfield, Inc. presents its Old Capitol Holiday Walks on Thursdays through Christmas, plus a kickoff date on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Mayor Mike Houston will light the holiday tree at 5:30 p.m. on the Old State Capitol Plaza at the corner of Sixth and Adams streets and there will be holiday music. What is not to love about the ole-fashioned joy of holiday shopping downtown. Shops will be decorated and there will be a Santa House with a live reindeer where you can get your photo taken with both (there are also Saturday hours), horse-drawn trolley rides, storytelling, music and entertainment. You may even see Abraham and Mary Lincoln strolling along the streets. Parking is free at downtown meters on Saturday and Sundays and weekdays after 5 p.m. Or you can park in the underground garage beneath the Old State Capitol until 9 p.m. for 75 cents per half hour.
