For all the criticism of rubber Lincolns, the ALPLM has staying power. There really is something magical that happens when you walk through the doors, as if you have been transported back to the 19 th century, which is what every good museum does. Just eight years old now, it is hard to imagine downtown without the ALPLM. Runner-up: Illinois State Museum
