FESTIVAL | Must-go for gusto
St. Andrew Society of Central Illinois puts on the best parties. You are invited to its first ever World Tour Celtic Festival, Sat., Sept. 14, from noon until midnight held downtown outside Celtic Mist, the festival sponsor. Almost every area Celtic band and musician will play throughout the day including Celtic Cross Pipe and Drum Band, pictured. Celtic eats will be served up by Bennigan’s, Irish and Scots dancers will perform and you won’t want to miss the whiskey seminars. Other highlights are a kids’ area with bounce house, face painting, tea with Mary Queen of Scots, photo op with knights in armor; and contests for adults such as for the best redhead, bonniest knees and best jig. The festival is a fundraiser for the group, which is invited to perform at the world champion athletic event in Scotland next year, an exciting honor for any Celtic dancer or musician. SASCI hopes to make the festival an annual event, with the prospect of performances by visiting talent from its sister city of Killarney, Ireland.
