Editor’s note

At noon on March 29 an ecumenical group of Springfi eld Christians will assemble in front of the Illinois Supreme Court building at Second and Capitol, as they do every Good Friday, to begin their Way of the Cross walk through downtown Springfi eld. At 14 stations along the way they will stop to sing and pray and be reminded that injustices Jesus confronted are still alive today. At the Supreme Court, walkers will consider capital punishment. At the Federal Building, Sixth and Monroe, there will be a reading on poverty and hunger. At Eighth and Monroe, looking toward the Medical District, participants consider a weakened Jesus and this: “Our community does not lack for superb health care resources. Unfortunately our resources do not adequately extend weight and funding for prevention programs such as nutrition and supportive mental health services. This is especially so for those living on the margins of society. Access to health care for all continues to be caught between policies and debates lacking in compassion and honesty.” The walk is a good way to bring the Easter message home. –Fletcher Farrar, editor and publisher
