THEATER | Period play
Bring a blanket or lawn chair and be transported back in time during two matinees and an evening performance of the play Prairie Dreams: The Story of Clayville and Its People, written by Tara McClellan McAndrew and directed by Carly Shank. Performed at Clayville Sept. 2, 8 and 9, the play is about the early days of Clayville, a historic stagecoach inn, and the people who created it. In addition to the three performances, there’s also an opening night fundraiser Friday, Sept. 1, starting at 5 p.m. It includes a cocktail hour, harvest dinner and dessert, music by Tom Irwin and the play, for $100. Purchase tickets from Sangamon Auditorium, UIS or onsite Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The historic site is an easy drive west on Jefferson Avenue and is located on the south, or left side, of the road before the town of Pleasant Plains.
