Organizers for a Central Illinois Race Unity Picnic are looking for musicians, dancers and art-contest judges to come participate in a Race Unity event being held June 10 at Springfield’s Southwind Park.

Organizers say the event will be a largescale celebration of mankind’s diversity. The June 10 picnic is an expansion of an annual Race Unity Rally that for 14 years was held each June at the State Capitol.

“Live music and dancing, tasty food fresh from the grill, a children’s Race Unity Art contest, and the opportunity to make new friends – these are just a few of the highlights planned for June 10 at Southwind Park,” said Delores Martin, one of the picnic organizers. “We encourage artists of all stripes to contact us and get on the program as either a performer or an art-contest judge.”

Picnic organizers are hopeful that this year’s picnic will result in creating lasting friendships, which could lead to making Springfield a more unified and compassionate community.

Artists interested in getting involved with the picnic can call 544-9595 or 553-5978 to contact organizers. More information is available at www.raceunityrally.org.
