Downtown Springfield, Inc.’s Old Capitol Farmers Market 2011 season comes to a conclusion with its annual Halloween at the Market. Not only can you grab the last of season’s fresh produce Oct. 29, but you can enter your kids and dogs in a costume contest. Register your kids, up to 12 years old, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the springfieldmoms.org booth. Register your dogs beginning at 10 a.m. at the Illinois Humane booth. Judging of children’s costumes starts at 11 a.m., with prizes in three categories. Judging for canine costumes starts at noon, and prizes will also be awarded. Children can also trick-or-treat for stickers by picking up a Bingo card from any farmer vendor and visiting enough vendors to fill the sheet. Once full, cards can be turned in at the St. John’s booth for prizes and giveaways. Besides live music, Chef Michael Higgins of Maldaner’s Restaurant will provide a kid-friendly cooking demonstration at 10 a.m.
