When Springfield native Jeff Dauksch of Chawbacon infamy moved to Chicago nine years ago looking for bigger and better things, he formed a band called Old Black and Blue Eyes. The power trio specialized in performing Frank Sinatra standards punk-rock style and made a splash doing so. Now bandmates Dauksch, Brad Bischoff and Michael Mace make “their own brand of high-energy rock fused with mod, ska and punk” while still keeping a few rambunctious versions of Mr. Sinatra classics around for fun. All this and more is available on We Love Maz, OBBE’s new record. Joining in on the Friday night fun is Almost Human, an all-original combo from Taylorville with a new CD, The Veil Lifted, and “Springfield’s founding fathers of hip-hop,” 95 Mental with a “greatest hits album” collected from their releases of the mid-90s. Word on the street says a few Chawbacon alumni might attack the stage to add to the lovely mayhem expected and intended on this most delightful evening of planned cacophony.
