As founder, bassist and self-titled “senior member,” Joe O’Neill relates the beginning of the band as “almost by accident.” The 55-year-old musician hadn’t played bass ever and not played out live in 35 some years when he started looking to form a band. The original plan of gigging a few nights a month progressed into playing nearly every weekend at local bars, clubs, parties and occasional regional shows. Additional members Maddie Brown (guitar, lead vocals), Matt Ellis (lead guitar, vocals), Ed Boyd (keyboards, vocals), Colin Manahan (drums, vocals) and Hank Stoutamyer (bass, sound tech) give the group an incredible age differential, from early 20s through mid-50s. This unusual combination of band members gives the group a diverse song list as each member contributes to the overall selection. Staying somewhere within a country rock, Southern rock, classic rock and blues format, the Stone and Biscuit Band plays songs to please, with tunes from Heart, Doobie Brothers, Santana, Counting Crows, ZZ Top and Gretchen Wilson, just for a snippet of the set list.
