BAND SPOTLIGHT | Mathien
A guitarist and songwriter since his youth, Chris Mathien began playing as a solo act during his college years at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He hooked up with bassist Mike Schiff and drummer Aaron Bouslog then released the CD Head, Heart and Hands which caught the attention of Chicago’s Midwest Music Group management organization. Another CD, Hello Again, released in 2008, kept the fire burning and further extended the reach of the expanding band both sonically and artistically. With the addition of keyboardist and vocalist Peter Wilkins, and after persistent touring and intensive songwriting, now comes The Night I Was an Alpha Male, a mix of contemporary sounds with classic sensibilities combining pop, rock, funk and soul into an exciting blend of instantly listenable songs, influenced by reggae and hip-hop, recorded in Chicago’s Pressure Point Recording Studios. During CD release travels, the band plays the House of Blues in Chicago on Friday then appears at Marly’s on Saturday.
