Arjia Rinpoche, a Tibetan high lama who fled Tibet in 1998, addresses the audience in a 45-minute lecture followed by a question and answer session and book signing. Rinpoche shares his story of the turbulent years in Tibet during the Cultural Revolution that included 16 years in a forced labor camp and his rise to prominence within the Chinese Buddhist bureaucracy. His memoir, Surviving the Dragon, will be available for purchase. Rinpoche is currently director of the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in Bloomington, Ind., and the Tibetan Center for Compassion and Wisdom in California.
