MUSIC | Song and dance

For two nights only on the outdoor stage, hear the story of New Salem through the words of Lincoln’s contemporaries, traditional music of the era, and original songs composed by Mark Mathewson of Athens.

Mathewson, a composer and musician with national credits, has also assembled bluegrass performers: Erich Schroeder, one of the best clawhammer banjo players in Illinois; Steve Staley, known as the ‘house fiddler’ at Lincoln’s New Salem; and, Jan Sarnes, former bass player for McGee Creek Connection, a very popular bluegrass group in the area. Ted Keylon and Amalia Mathewson provide narration, dance and song. Pre-shows start at 7 p.m. each night in the indoor theater. For more information, phone 217-241-3241.
