ART | Paper projections

A Springfield Art Association reception Aug. 27 from 5-7 p.m. opens another volume on one of Springfield’s most unusual and interesting exhibitions as 36 artists from all over the United States show their unique handmade paper pieces. Don’t be fooled. This art doesn’t just sit flat like a sheet of paper. Paper and pulp was pulled, piled and placed and used as the core material in paintings, collages, sculptures and so much more as evidenced in the “The Wedding Party” by Betsy Dollar (pictured above). The event is held in conjunction with the United States-based organization of hand papermakers, The Friends of Dard Hunter. Kathryn Clark, FDH founder, artist and master papermaker, served as the juror.

Submit calendar listings at www.illinoistimes.com or e-mail to [email protected] or send them to:

Calendar P.O. Box 5256 Springfield, IL 62705 Deadline is Friday at noon prior to when the paper comes out on newsstands.

Dates, times and locations are subject to last-minute changes, so we suggest calling before attending the event.
