Springfield resident Blair Dial has made a monster pizza that just might win him a monster prize. Dial is a one of three finalists in the Papa John’s Pizza Challenge, a contest to create the best pizza, and his “Big Bonanza” pizza is on sale right now at Papa John’s shops nationwide.
The Big Bonanza is ham, beef, a double helping of bacon, jalapeños, onions, fresh Roma tomatoes and a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce base. It costs $12, and Dial says on the Big Bonanza’s Facebook page that it “weighs a ton.” The contest winner will be determined by the number of pizzas sold, and the winner will receive Papa John’s pizza for life, a onepercent cut of their pizza’s sales up to $10,000 and a trip to Louisville, Ky., to make a commercial featuring their creation.
Dial is up against a chicken cordon bleu pizza and a more conventional pepperoni, sausage and jalapeño pizza. Dial’s pizza has proven so popular at the Danville Dans baseball stadium, he says on Facebook that the Danville Papa John’s shop recently ran out of ingredients to make it. The contest runs until Aug. 29.
