The wash costs $12 for large dogs, $10 for medium dogs and $8 for small dogs. “It’s just an opportunity for people to get their pets chipped for the many benefits it brings,” said Jane McBride, president of the Illinois Humane Society. Microchips installed in a dog allow the animal to be tracked as it crosses state lines and will allow companies with the microchip software to identify lost animals and return them to their owners. Normally, pet owners would have to register the microchip themselves, but at the clinic, someone will register the animal for them. “It won’t be left to the owners,” McBride said. McBride advises that pet owners who wish to microchip their pet preregister by e-mailing microchip@illinoishumane.org with their name, contact information and the number of pets they wish to microchip. Everyone who comes for the microchip should have their contact information, an alternative contact, the contact information for their pet’s veterinarian and a basic description of their pet. |
