May 1 arrives with the second Haymarket Festival at Douglas Park. This annual music festival and celebration of the working man includes performances by: Sarah Schneider Band, Kerwin & Lang, Joe Frew & the 2 Live Crew and Gypsy Collabo. Speakers include radio personality Greg Bishop, retired union organizer Al Pieper, and UIS Professor Dr. Richard Gilman-Opalsky. From 1-3 p.m. at The Honest Abe Open Mic, the public is invited to read poetry, perform comedy or play music. Michael Mayosky’s spinning canvas performance pieces and other art by local artists will be on display. Food Not Bombs will collect nonperishable food items for local food pantries.
