For a couple of decades now, saxophonist Frank Trompeter has continually leveled a creative blast upon the local landscape. From involvement in several popular bands, including elevator shoe and Razin’ Kane to his own respected, eponymous jazz groups, along with inventing nefariously humorous lounge singer Frankie Rambelon, originating Frank’s Funky Filmstrips, plus presenting and performing freejazz and experimental music with End Times Trio, Trompeter keeps the muse hopping. With his first full jazz release, Gnarly at Marly’s, the versatile musician showcases his classic jazz side on a live CD recorded during performances by the Frank Trompeter Quartet from a weekly Friday evening gig at Marly’s Pub. With Trompeter on saxophones, vocals and percussion and his formidable, musically endowed group featuring Chris Miller on piano and organ, the late John Peterson on bass (Chris Warren now plays bass) and Dion Doss on drums, with trombonist Doug Burns sliding on a track, the music shines and sings. The CD is dedicated to Peterson and predominantly contains music from his final show. See also
