One day prior, the group has planned a Lincoln-related historic site bike tour starting and ending at the Capitol Complex Visitor’s Center (425 S. College Street). The ride begins at 1 p.m. with an itinerary that lists stops at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln’s Home, Law Offices, and Tomb, the Old State Capitol and Lincoln’s New Salem in Petersburg.

The League of Illinois Bicyclists (www.bikelib.org) is another group dedicated to promoting bicycle access, education and safety. LIB volunteers work for better roads, improved policies and more funding for bike activities. Their Web site is home to a wealth of information including trail guides, safety videos and more. From Aug. 29 to Sept. 3, LIB and other Illinois groups will participate in the 2009 Route 66 Trail Ride, a 375-mile-long bicycle ride from Granite City to Chicago.

Registration is available online.
