Walter Trout may not be a household name, unless your household revels in the history of rock blues from the mid-to-late 20th century. In that case you’d know Trout as an exceptional blues guitarist who spent time working and playing with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers before setting out on his own in 1989. Europe-based Provogue Records released Unspoiled by Progress on Aug. 4, 2009, to chronicle Trout’s solo career, not as a “best of” rehashing, but as a collection of new songs, unreleased studio cuts, and various bits that highlight his work over the last 20 years. With Trout on guitar and vocals, the rest of the traveling band consists of Sammy Avila on a real Hammond B-3 organ, Rick Knapp on bass and Michael Leasure on drums.
