MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. >> Microsoft has paid over $300 million to buy a huge Mountain View tech campus the company occupies, a fresh sign of how the software leviathan has established its roots in Silicon Valley.

In a $330 million deal, Microsoft bought an office and research hub in Mountain View where it now operates, documents filed Wednesday with the Santa Clara County Recorder’s Office show.

Washington state-based Microsoft bought the campus through an all-cash transaction. Mission West Properties, a veteran real estate and development firm that acted through an affiliate, sold the campus to Microsoft, according to the public documents.

In 2017, Microsoft unveiled plans to revamp and reconstruct an existing campus in Mountain View as an upgraded complex totaling 643,000 square feet. The tech company began moving into the complex in late 2019. The campus is large enough to accommodate 2,000 to 3,000 workers.

Mission West Properties had leased the 33.3-acre site to Microsoft for several years before the tech company bought the property. The deal appears to be the largest real estate purchase in Santa Clara County this year, measured by dollar amount. It’s also one of the largest in the Bay Area in 2024.
