In March of 1992, Hector Picard was working as an apprentice electrician on a construction site when he was struck with electricity. 13,000 volts went thru his body and struck the right side, entering his right arm and exiting out of his right foot. As a result, he was left with one arm nearly cut off at the shoulder, and the other arm nearly cut off half-way to his forearm.


Hector Picard is an outstanding example of courage and zest for life. He proves that if you really want to live life, nothing can keep you down.


Hector was flown to the Hospital, where he stayed for two months. The first month he was not conscious and afterward, he recuperated at the Sunrise Rehab for four months. Hector credits the support and presence of his wife, Frances, and his then one-year old daughter, Jazilette, with aiding his recovery. They were able to stay with him in his room, and he claims that knowing his young family needed him gave him the extra motivation to get well. He either had the choice to surrender and be a handicapped or climb over and overcome this mountain of an obstacle. He chose to triumph over this obstacle which fate had put in his way. Mr. Picard, 42, was born and grew up in Miami, Florida. His parents came from Cuba. He is now the father of two girls, eighteen year old Jazilette and fifteen year old Frances, practices as a real estate agent and lives in Coconut Creek.

Today, in his daily life, Hector refuses to give in to any limitations. He has no modifications in his home or his car and he drove a stick-shift automobile at first, now he drives
