Denis Colin Leary is an award-winning actor/ comedian/writer has over thirty years of entertaining worldwide. He is a man of many roles and plays them with aplomb; so much so that some people don’t like him, because he epitomizes the actors ability to become the role. He can be rude, in your face, unnerving and even over the top. Some of us hide our shadow... Leary exposes it and brings it to light.

You know how it is, we can laugh at ourselves or we can laugh at him. With Leary, you never know what’s coming next but it will get your attention.

His career as a comedian in Boston during the 80s, where he hosted his own show at the underground club, “Play It Again Sam’s and developed his great stage persona. Leary first became famous through an MTV sketch in which he ranted about R.E.M. He has released two records of his stand-up comedy: No Cure for Cancer (1993) and Lock ‘n Load (1997). Leary has acted in over 40 movies, , including The Sandlot, Monument Ave., The Matchmaker, The Ref, Suicide Kings, Dawg, Wag the Dog, Demolition Man, The Thomas Crown Affair and Operation Dumbo Drop. He has also provided voices for characters in animated films, including a medium fire-breathing dragon named Flame in the The Agents series, a saber-toothed tiger named Diego in the Ice Age film trilogy, and Francis in A Bug’s Life. Today, Leary is the star and cocreator of FX’s Rescue Me. He plays Tommy Gavin, a New York City firefighter dealing with alcoholism, family dysfunction, and other issues in post-9/11 New York City. He has produced (and still produces) numerous movies, television shows, and specials.

Leary received Emmy nominations in 2006 and 2007 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance.

A big heart and compassion rules Leary. In December, 1999 in response to a personal tragedy, Leary Firefighters Foundation was founded, when six firefighters from Leary’s hometown of Worcester were killed in a massive warehouse fire. Among the dead were Leary’s cousin Jerry Lucey and his close childhood friend Lt. Tommy Spencer Since its creation in the year 2000, the foundation has committed more than $10 million to programs for fire departments in the Worcester, Boston, New York City, and New Orleans areas for equipment, training materials, new vehicles, and new facilities.

Leary is an ice hockey fan and owns his own backyard hockey rink in New York. He says the Boston Bruins is his team. Leary hosted the National Hockey League video NHL’s Greatest Goals. To no surprise, Leary is a Boston Red Sox enthusiast; he also narrated the official 2004 World Series film. Leary is married to Ann Lemback and they have two children, son John Joseph “Jack” (born 1990) and daughter Devin (born 1992).

His third cousin through marriage we learn, is Conan O’Brien, also a successful comedian and actor. Look for the Rescue Me Comedy Tour Featuring Denis Leary and Special Guests from the Cast of the Show, who will perform at Seminole Hard Rock Live on April 26, 2009.
