RESTAURANT REVIEW

Now the Ocean Front Showcase for Gourmet Cuisine

In a remarkable transformation, Deerfield Beach’s Patio Bar and Grill located in the Howard Johnson Plaza Resort has archived a star level of culinary excellence. The inspiration for this transformation came from Senior Vice Prescient, Ernest A. Porco and the implementation was assigned to General Manager, Julian Felder. What has emerged is an elegantly contemporary, ocean side gem serving the exquisite creations of Executive Chef Pasquale (Pat) Lena at prices geared to the most costsensitive budgets.

The Seafood Bisque ($5.95), for
example, caresses every taste bud with an opulence generated by a bountiful blend of seafood. A crisp round of pesto crostini adds more excitement to this vibrant opener that can evolve into a complete meal when paired with a Caesar Salad ($6.95) crafted with the Chef’s “white” balsamic dressing.

In moments between courses, you can best enjoy the spectacular ocean and beach views with selections from the superlatively crafted wine roster. New Harbor’s captivating Sauvignon Blanc ($7/glass) will move you to call for a bottle ($25) and you will have the same reaction to Rosemount’s boldly uplifting Shiraz ($7/$25).

The Small Plate section features a cross section of signature dishes.

Sesame Seared Tuna ($8.95), marked by a velvety texture and subtle seasoning, is paired with crunchy wakami slaw. The lavish Shrimp and Crab Flatbread ($7.95) deliciously harmonizes the two sea mates with the dynamic essences of Parmesan and scallions.

The Chef creates all of his dressings and sauces on site. The BBQ Chicken Quesadilla ($8.50) tucks seasoned chicken breast, red onion and Gorgonzola cheese in a wafer-like tortilla cut into segments and drizzled with delectable in-house BBQ elixir.

Steak Chimichurra Crostini ($7.95) presents flank steak piled on toasted baguette and garnished with an aromatic cilantro tinged topping..

Almost a meal by itself, the Day After Thanksgiving Panini ($8.50) layers roasted turkey, stuffing, mayo and cranberry sauce between two slices of toasted sourdough and comes with one side (the Black bean

Cole Slaw is fabulous). For heartier appetites, the Large Plates are incredible feats of flavors. The Mediterranean Grilled Chicken ($16.95) is a towering masterpiece of roasted potatoes supporting grilled filets, savory red onions and a portabella cap anointed with balsamic reduction swirled throughout. Feta cheese energizes each morsel and a mound of sautéed julienne vegetables completes this feast.

Make it a grand finale with the velvety smooth Banana Foster ($6.95), the hauntingly dense Chocolate Panache ($6.95) and the sinfully rich Tropical Cheesecake ($5.95). Enjoy Happy Hour during the week from 4 to 7 and again in the evening from 10 to 1am. Wednesday features wine tasting from 6 to 8 and two dinner specials that the Chef will pair with the appropriate vintage. Tune into live music every evening and on Saturdays from 1 to 5 pm. Patio Bar and Grill will be open throughout the holiday season.
