The Gingerbread House Child Advocacy Center hosted its annual fundraising lunch at Sam’s Town Casino in Shreveport on Wednesday, Oct. 30. This year’s special guest was Demi-Leigh Tebow, former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe, who was part of a question-and-answer segment with Jackie Jovic and Gingerbread House Board Chairman Waynette Ballengee. The Louisiana Association of the Blind hosted its inaugural gala fundraiser, The Eye Ball, at Horseshoe Casino’s Riverdome. The evening featured dueling DJs playing the latest hits and Halloween classics, a cash prize costume party, a delicious Halloween-themed buffet and a fabulous silent auction. Proceeds from this event go toward transforming the Louisiana Association for the Blind’s headquarters building into the area’s premier Assistive Technology Training Center. — Mark Crawford
