SciPort Discovery Center hosted the Goodman Gala on Jan. 21 in celebration of the grand opening of the new Goodman IMAX Dome Theater. The event included cocktails, live music, food by Blake Jackson of Drake Catering and an exclusive viewing in the domed theater. The newly upgraded theater can now show educational IMAX movies as they have for decades, but they can now also show full-length feature films like “Top Gun: Maverick”. – Mark Crawford

The 35th Shreveport-Bossier-DeSoto African American Scholarship Banquet was held Saturday, Feb. 11, at Morning Star Family Life Center. The keynote speaker was Dennis J. Shields, president/ chancellor of the Southern University System. The Krewe of Elders celebrated its 25th anniversary at its ball on Jan. 27 at the American Legion. The theme was “Ocean Commotion.” Appropriate decorations included blinking sea turtle lights, goldfish snacks and mermaids hanging from the ceiling. The royalty table had monogrammed napkins.
