Political Tidbits
The fate of Confederate monuments is now in the hands of local governments. The Louisiana Senate has rejected two bills which would have required prior approval to any action being taken. The measures didn’t even make it out of committee. The Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee voted 4-2 to kill both bills.

I would like to respond to Mr. Avallone’s editorial on the Confederate monument at the courthouse. I believe the monument should be moved, but not because I think those who disagree with me want to “go back to the time of slavery.” I want to go forward to a time in which everyone, regardless of their race or status, has equal opportunity.

HOTEL-MOTEL OCCUPANCY TAX
When Caddo and Bossier voters approved the additional 1.5 percent hotel-motel occupancy tax in the fall of 2015, Bossier Mayor Lo Walker and Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler promised that the funds collected from out-of-town visitors would reap benefits for both Bossier and Caddo Parish.

Blind Tiger Turns 25
Well known for its Cajun dishes, the Blind Tiger is an anchor for downtown businesses and has thrived longer than most everyone else in the district.
